So What Have I Been Doing Over the Last Year???

It’s been nearly a year since I posted anything on my blog. So, what have I been doing??? FacebookTwitter…iPhone…But, now it’s time to get back into sharing some of my own thoughts.

Okay:

The category is: My biggest change in 2009

Envelope, please…
9/15/2009 – Lap Band Surgery

Yes, I went under the knife to have a band inserted around the top of my stomach. In the past 30 years, I’ve been on numerous diets – Weight Watchers, Medifast, Atkins. Tried various exercise programs – who can forget Jane Fonda aerobics, the endless payments to health clubs and the P90X. Finally, a solution -- the Lap Band.

How has it changed my life? My self-confidence has had a great boost. My energy level is high. The clothes at the back of closet are now at the front and being worn. I feel great! Sure there have been times when I wish I could have eaten everything off of my plate, but why? A taste is just as good.

Thanksgiving dinner is when I noticed it the most. There were about 12+ people at my home this year all friends and family I have known for a long time. We spanned the age of 80+ to 2 years old. There was such an electricity in the air and so many wonderfully touching moments. And, the food was marvelous. There were no regrets from me not eating every little speck on my plate, instead I sat back and just watched everyone’s faces. What a wonderful day!

How much weight have I lost? 35 lbs and counting. My goal is a total of 65 pounds…I can’t believe in 4 months I’ve come so far.

Happy Valentines Day!!!

Valentines Day! What a great day! It's a time to remember the one's you love and those that got away. In my life only a few got away without some sort of scars.

Getting ready for a busy weekend. First, off to the Madison Inn -- http://www.madisoninnva.com/ -- to help my friend Sue and her 60 guests tonite. This restaurant continues to surprise us. There are nights when it's slow and other nights its hopping. Who can predict. So, I'll put on my smile and be ready to share the love!

Had dinner with a special friend last night. Denise and I met right after me arriving in Washington in 1977 and while working at the NAB. The great thing about great friends is picking up just where we left off. We talked for 4-1/2 hours without skipping a beat. From our kids, to husbands/boyfriends, work, old bosses, moms/dad and other extended family. I remember the food and wine were great, but it was the conversation -- and laughing -- that made the evening perfect.

Rule #1 in Life: Never stop talking and laughing!

Okay...got to get rolling today. But, wanted to add one quick feature to my Blog on a regular basis...A "Beauty Tip." (That's a lame name isn't it...maybe you could suggest one???) Just as a background, I'll hit all the make-up, fashion, and "good for you" sites regularly. Then, post something of interest to all my readers. So...here we go!

  • Have you checked your make-up bag in your purse lately? No make-up bag...then check the lipstick and other stuff at the bottom of your purse. Is it more than 3 months old? Then, it really needs to be pitched. The bacteria on it alone will make a mess of your skin.

I am the worst offender of this. So, I'm pledging to get rid of at least 2 things that are old, dead, and yucky. Pick-up a new lipstick, mascara or chapstick. Buy it from me...buy it from this website where everything is under $5.

Old Friends...

One of the fun things of having this Mary Kay party on Saturday is getting together with old friends. For example...today I replied to an email from Carol Cohen. She, Jan and I were "thick as thieves" while at ASTD about twenty years ago. Carol was our marketing writer, very task oriented and always the youngest in the crowd. Well, Carol has two kids now...all grown and accomplished.

In her email, she mentioned the three of us going to Bill Clinton's Inauguration. It was very cold but so much fun. We had a blast. In fact, I remember us listening to his speech and then deciding it was too cold to stay out there much longer. So, we took the Metro to King Street and had lunch while watching the parade. What a great day!

Beauty tip of the day...
For the last week, I've been using the Mary Kay Timewise Miracle Set in the morning and night. Guess what? My skin looks and feels so much better. It's quite a quick process! A scrub, a hydrator and a moisturizer...that's it!

Mary Kay also has a Microdermabrasion Set to be used once or twice a week. Have yet to try it...but when I do...I'll give you a full report.

Until then...Remember...

A Beautiful Opportunity

So, I've decided to begin something new, something fresh, something to keep me busier than I already seem to be...I've signed-up to be a Mary Kay Consultant.

Yes, the Mary Kay known for pink Cadillacs, makeup and big hair. Oh well, two of three is not so bad, right? I'll take a free pink Cadillac and great skincare, plus make-up. Let's leave the big hair to Gramma Helen!

Over the weekend, me, along with 80 other women in the Northern Virgina area, met up to get excited about Mary Kay. Yes, I sat there thinking this is wild, bizarre, and fun all at the same time. It was strange to sing songs, hold hands and shout. Sometimes I felt like I was back at a Polish wedding...a bit embarassed and a bit proud.

But the success of these women is astounding. And, you know what? I can do this? So, why not?

My first party is on Saturday with a handful of gals. The basement of my home is being transformed into a wonderful studio where anyone can stop by and experience the MK Products. There will be before and after pictures so everyone can see the tremendous difference in your skin.

So, this Blog: "Living, Laughing and Loving with Judy" is going to take a new slant with great skin care tips, make-up techniques, and some info on great products for the man in your life.

Check-in often...'cause It's Time To Celebrate You!

This is too cool!

It's amazing to me how cool this whole blogging software can be. I was spying around on my niece's blog to figure out how she got this wonderful music on it. Clicked on her playlist and was able to add some of my favorite songs. This is just too much fun.

So, it's Friday, January 2...have I broken a resolution yet? Well, the day is not quite over and I'm pretty set on getting out of the house today. It's such a gloomy day. The dogs are sleeping at my feet...it's so warm and cozy in my home. Guess it's time to shake some things up!

Let's see on the list...clean the basement, make a new budget, run the vacuum, take the pups for a walk, go to see Gramma. Still not certain what I will do...

Before I leave this post...my music choices. I have received so much grief for my music choices, I hope you'll enjoy them and not turn the volume off. Yes, they are strange at times. Here's how I rationalize:

  • Love the old standards...remembering my Dad playing the stereo and my brother Micheal's band,
  • Motown, of course...how can a girl grow up in Deetroit and not love Motown,
  • Silly country songs...some of the greatest music on the earth...and also some of the worst,
  • Eva Cassidy...her voice sounds like an angel,
  • John Mayer...his music is so tender and sensual...who cares that his personal life is so yucky, and
  • Satin Doll...my Dad's favorite song...the amazing words that describe my love, Max.

Began my new Susan Branch calendar today...Her words for January: "Baby, It's Cold Outside!"

It's 2009. This should be yet another year of changes. The New Year is a good time think about the past and plan for the future. It's also a good time to suspect just what will happen this year.

Will Jeff really join the Navy? Will he experience interesting things and find a path?

Will my Mom last the year? Will she hang on and live in her past?

Will the economy improve and allow me to feel more finacially secure?

Interesting to think about, hmmm. A new year, full of possibilities.

Sick a few days before Christmas

How yucky is it that just days before the holiday, you get sick! My voice is gone so it seems worthwhile to type into a computer.

Blogging...to blog...the act of blogging...what a wild word. Why have I decided to do something like this? It's crazy...silly...so new age. Fun, too? So, my niece began detailing her brand new daughter on her blog and I realized how much I enjoyed knowing about her life. Families are so far from each other, it's nice to find a way to be close. Maybe me writing about all the craziness in my life will make it all seem worthwhile and purposeful.

So, I begin my blog...Living, Laughing and Loving with Judy. This is where I'll chat about my son (Jeff), my Mother (Mom), my boyfriend (Max), my dogs (Jada and Mari) and whatever. Hope you enjoy and will check-in.
